Jed has a good point

I refer you to Jed's blog http://cloudninetackle.blogspot.com/ where his makes a very good observation. As the headline says "why don't European anglers wear lifevests?"

Sure he has a shop and you can think all he wants to do is sell, but the man has a point.

You are absolutely right Jed.

Take his advice, it could save your life.

  1. Totally agree with you and Jed on this more anglers should wear lifevests personally i wear one everytime i'm fishing off rocky marks now a floatation/lure vest but I'm afraid in alot of cases it takes an accident or a close call to open
their eyes to actually how dangerous the sea can be

  2. As I say in my profile live in an area known as "The Coast of Death". Last year (without checking the statistics, just cases I remember) 21 anglers died in the waters of Galicia, Spain. It must be said that most died of cold as the sea is never above 10 - 12 degrees centigrade, even in summer, but in all cases there were witnesses who called the coast guards, they take about 10 - 15 minutes to get to spot by helecopter.

Another factor is the fall which can knock you out. Having said this, I truly believe that at least half of them could still be around to tell the tale.

I'm now shopping around for a comfortable lifevest and will be wearing a helmet, probably the type used for white water rafting. I always watch the spot I'm planning on perching myself for a good 15 mins before I start fishing, but as I have experienced, a freak wave can hit at any time. So far it's only meant a good soaking but why temp fate.

    Let's hope I start a fad.

  3. I agree with everything you've written.

Once I saw hooligans throwing stones in the fishing area :-( (You know, sometimes we go fishing on cliffs) and the helmet should be obligatory in this case.

P.D: hey! now I can see the followers. ¡Bieeen! el Perrito Labrador parece haber crecido jeje...

    Saludos.
